Match Reports 2017

CCC vs Nomads

Posted by: webmaster on Wednesday August 30, 2017 (15:52:37)
Well, it's only taken four months for Chantilly Cricket Club to produce their first match report of the season, but perhaps that's because it also happened to be their first win of 2017. Is it right to only produce match reports for the wins? Well, it certainly means less work for the writer.....

This match was the annual fixture between the Nomads and CCC. Having had 0 wins from 4 matches up to this point, CCC were desperate to get a win under their belts.

Chantlilly batted first, with stalwart Nick Sainsbury joined by newcomer Nasser at the top of the innings. Unfortunately, neither could gather much steam, and both were gone cheaply within the first few overs. Vicky came in at first drop and suffered a similar fate, leaving Chantilly already three down for very few runs.

Fortunately for CCC, Shaban was next in and looked in good form from the out set. His run of solid scores this season has been a pleasure to watch, and this innings was to be the best of the lot. A plethera of 4s, as well as some sensible running and defensive play, added to a superb individual total of 93.

Shaban was also well supported by Zahid and Eddy, scoring 9 and 26 respectively, to keep the run rate high and the score ticking over nicely.    more ...

Home & Away - the return!

Posted by: webmaster on Wednesday May 03, 2017 (10:24:26)
Home & Away to make a comeback?

It's been a long time since our last Home & Away outing and many of our regulars have moved on and left the area, such is the transient nature of an expatriate community. Home & Away was a great way for people of all ages and from all walks of life to meet fellow expatriates in the area. Indeed many lasting friendships were made after a first meeting at one of our dinners. We've noticed there a large number of people moving into the area who are maybe looking to meet new people, so maybe Home & Away could help?

I'd like to gauge interest on holding a Home & Away dinner on a date to be confirmed, possibly Saturday May 27th - now Saturday June 10th. The venue is to be confirmed but it'll be a restaurant in or around Chantilly and will be a sit down meal with wine, hopefully for around 40€ a head. The idea is that we can encourage a mix of new arrivals in the area with those of us who've lived here a while so you can see old friends and meet new people!

I've sent an email to everyone on our mailing lists - if you didn't register for the Home & Away list but would like to receive updates please manage your subscription using the link in the menu to the left. If you're not on the Home & Away mailing list you'll not receive any more updates about this dinner. If you have friends or contacts who might be interested but might not be on the mailing list please tell them about it. The more the merrier!

If you'd like to come on the 10th, or possibly on another date please email me as soon as possible using the link below with how many you'll be. If we can get sufficient numbers I'll go ahead and get organising!

Click here to say if you'd like to come along

Driving in Paris - you need a sticker

Posted by: webmaster on Friday January 13, 2017 (15:49:51)
From the 15 January 2017 Paris will be classified as France's first "zone à circulation restreinte" or ZCR. This will mean any car wishing to drive within the zone marked by the peripherique will have to have a new "Crit'Air" vignette on the windscreen, subject to a fine of 63€ if you don't have one. The most polluting cars will be banned in Paris from 08h-20h Monday to Friday. The vignette costs 4,18€ including postage and takes up to 30 days to arrive.

For more information see here and here for details, and here to order your vignette.

Match Reports 2016

CCC vs Thoiry

Posted by: Anonymous on Monday July 11, 2016 (12:34:49)
With Chantilly Cricket Club having started the 2016 season with one win and one loss, this match against Thoiry at the Apremont Oval would be the one to tip the scales one way or another.

During the week, the CCC XI was put together in record time, and a fine crowd turned up to watch the match. Was this due to the fact that this was captain and president Nick Clarke's final match?
If so, would they see another century from the only club member to have ever reached the elusive three-figure milestone?

Having lost the toss and being asked to field first, the CCC players, with a strong bowling line-up, knew from past experience that Thoiry was capable of putting on big totals.

Robin and Adrian opened up with the new ball. Robin bowled excellent line and length; his paternity leave and lack of sleep seeming to have had no ill effect on his bowling. He picked up two wickets (one was a catch in the glue-like hands of Adrian, and the other was clean bowled!), which gave CCC the early boost they needed.

At the other end, Adrian was having a little more trouble, with several deliveries being sent to (and over) the boundary during his 3 over spell. At this point, Jonathan Taylor, Thoiry's key batsman, was starting to look dangerously comfortable.

Bowling changes were made, with Shaban and Jimmy coming on. Shaban proved to be a handful for the batsmen as usual, but neither bowler could take wickets (Jimmy still hasn't taken one this year!), as the Thoiry total continued to steadily climb.

Following drinks, another bowling change was ordered, with Eddy and Saravanan coming on. Bringing on opening bowlers around the half way mark is an interesting tactic, but would it pay off for CCC?    more ...

Match Reports 2016

CCC vs British Embassy

Posted by: webmaster on Monday May 30, 2016 (11:52:04)
Ready to bat
With a newly flattened pitch, and a newly laid mat, the players of Chantilly Cricket Club were eager to get out in the middle for their first match of the 2016 season against the British Embassy.

Could CCC continue their good form of 2015? How would the new pitch play? Would the British Embassy have any players that actually worked for the British Embassy? Read on to find out.....

On a pleasant, sunny afternoon, CCC batted first, in what would be a 35 over match.

The Embassy's opening bowler looked rather sharp, and proved to be quite effective, as he immediately made inroads into the CCC batting order. In the blink of an eye, CCC were 3 down with only 17 runs on the board; Nick S, Shaban, and new-comer Azher, all going cheaply.

Eddy and Saravanan steadied the ship though, and managed to begin accumulating some runs, but it wasn't to last, as Eddy was given caught behind on 18, with the ball 'possibly' knicking his gloves on the way past his bat towards the wicket-keepers gloves.

This brought Jimmy to the crease, as he and Saravanan found ways to collect some more runs, before Saravanan found himself walking back to the 'Pavillion'. (bench)

Nick C then strode out to the middle to join Jimmy, who had begun finding the middle of his bat surprisingly early in the season. The two middle-order batsmen started building a useful partnership that took the Chantilly total past 100.    more ...
