CCC vs MCC XXIXers

Posted by: webmaster on Monday July 27, 2015 (13:58:25)
Disclaimer: this report has been written WITHOUT the scorecard, hence some imprecision regarding how and when the runs were scored.

On an early July evening, the outlook appeared bleak for Chantilly Cricket Club’s first midweek T20 match. The heatwave had been replaced by grey skies, blustery winds and – as the start of the match grew near – sheets of rain! It was more of a wet splash than the Big Bash.

However the presence of only two Chantilly players meant the match had to be delayed anyway. Luckily the arrival of Matt, on loan from British Embassy and our wicketkeeper for the game, meant that Eddy and Robin could realistically envisage bowling the opening overs and taking on the might of the Australian touring party. These Antipodeans had taken Shane Warne’s advice and travelled by coach, though not necessarily all the way. The Melbourne CC XXIX Club had visited and played in Italy before arriving in Paris to experience French cricket. They were then to head for England and some more games followed by some Ashes cricket at Lord’s.

The tourists had kindly agreed to field a team similar in ability to our own. That obviously meant Chantilly was up against a team of crack athletes.
By now Eddy had got his gazebos up (not a euphemism), the 29ers were venturing out from the comfort zone of their warm coach and the other Chantilly players were trickling in.

Game on!    more ...

CCC vs LFP Cricket Club

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday July 02, 2015 (12:01:46)
Cooling off after a hot afternoon
It was yet another hot, hot day in Apremont for CCC's fifth match of the season, against the LFP Cricket Club. The fixture was originally supposed to be against Thoiry, but they must have written it on their fixture calendar using invisible ink. They informed us two days before the fixture that they had no idea about the fixture, so the LFP Cricket Club thankfully stepped up at the 11th hour.

With Nick C still on his way to the ground, and Eddy looking for something in the boot of his car, Jimmy joined the opposition captain for the toss. Jimmy's only other toss for CCC was a loss against the Embassy, but flipping a coin instead of a beer mat worked for Jimmy this time. Not wanting to send the troops out into field in the mid afternoon heat, Jimmy chose to bat, much to the delight of the Chantilly players crammed under Eddy's gazebos.

Nick S and Dominic padded up first, only to pad down (is that the verb for taking your pads off?) very shortly afterwards. With both openers gone and the total still in single digits, Chantilly were already wondering if this would be another one of those innings where they have to defend 60 runs. Eddy and Shaban started to calm the team's nerves however, playing some beautiful strokes and hitting the boundary at regular intervals. The two batsmen formed a great partnership, steering the CCC ship towards 70 runs after only 10 overs. Suddenly the Chantilly players were wondering if they might finally discover what it would be like to defend 200!    more ...

Sue Oakley leaves

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday July 02, 2015 (11:49:52)
Last Sunday saw Chantilly Cricket Club play (and win - see the match report!) their latest match. It also saw us have an opportunity to say goodbye and thank you to Sue Oakley, who is leaving these shores to return to England.

Sue has been instrumental in getting CCC to where it is today; for many years she has been an almost constant presence at matches supporting either Rob or Jack. She has been our scorer for as many years as we have had a scorer and she has been in charge of our prize giving ceremonies and speeches at our AGMs too. Without her CCC would not be the sociable cricket club it is.

Sue leaves with much gratitude from all players, past and present, and we all wish her the very best of luck in her future life in the UK. And if you do come back you'd be very welcome any time!

CCC vs Standard

Posted by: webmaster on Monday June 22, 2015 (10:01:47)
It was a Sunday afternoon on the 14th of June when the Standard Athletic Club drove to the Chantilly Cricket Club ground for a 35 over match against Chantilly. Although this was a friendly match Chantilly were eager to win as they have had lost the previous match against Standard last year by only a dozen runs. The visiting side won the toss and decided to bat first.

The weather was extremely hot, with the sun shining intensely on the fielders as they set out into the field. Eddy Hoyle and Patrick Clarke opened the bowling for the CCC. For the first few overs Chantilly kept the run rate pretty low, with Eddy getting a wicket at the end of his sixth over for a total of 9 runs. Patrick bowled his first 5 overs before being replaced by Jimmy Regan. Jimmy kept the runs pretty tight as well; conceding 11 runs in 4 overs with one LBW. Adrian Powell followed on from Eddy when he had bowled all of his overs, for a change of pace. Unfortunately Adrian couldn't repeat his spell from the last outing and his 2 overs went for 25 runs before being replaced by Robin Richardson. With Balaji replacing Jimmy Chantilly were keen to get some wickets. Robin kept Standard on a tight leash in terms of runs, after bowling all of his overs for just 21 runs, and getting one wicket which Jimmy caught. After Balaji bowled 4 overs for 39 runs and with one LBW, Savaranan replaced him getting 3 wickets for just 21 runs. Patrick and Jimmy came back to bowl the last 3 overs with Patrick getting a super wicket that took out the middle stump. One run out was also bagged in the last three overs. In the end, Standard scored a total of 200 runs with one wicket remaining.    more ...

CCC vs British Embassy

Posted by: webmaster on Monday June 15, 2015 (14:49:13)
Well it was raining
The forecast for this match had looked grim for several days leading up to the weekend, so it was no surprise that the players arrived in Apremont unsure of whether a game could be played or not.

As it happened, the entire first innings was completed without any rain delays at all, just some light drizzle to contend with. The CCC players were perhaps hoping for the rain to come straight away however, as the British Embassy got off to a great start. Their run rate quickly reached over 7 an over, with Praneeth looking very comortable in the middle as usual. The odd wicket fell, but by the half way mark, the Embassy already had 100 and were only 3 or 4 wickets down.

As with the previous match, Chantilly found their bowling form in the second half of the innings, as wickets started to tumble. The Embassy batsmen began struggling to get the ball away, and suddenly they were no longer looking at a total of over 200. In the end, they were all out for 168. A good comeback by CCC, but still a daunting total for their depleted batting line up to chase down.    more ...

CCC vs Lille

Posted by: webmaster on Monday May 25, 2015 (13:36:08)
CCC vs Lille 16/5/15

CCC loses! This was no humiliating loss however. There was a real fight to CCC's batting and bowling, that almost got them over the line, with most players agreeing that this was a particularly enjoyable match to be a part of.
Batting first, despite some reasonable knocks, CCC found themsleves about 5 wickets down, with only around 60 runs on the board and over half of the innings gone. After Prana went in the first over, Nick S, Eddy, Nick C, and Nick Shep, all looked in good touch, but none could go on to make a big score. Newcomer Balaji looked very good in the nets, but was caught second ball out in the middle, so we'll have to wait until next time to know what he's really capable of.

At this point, the middle order/tail end batsmen put their heads together and realised their only chance of getting a defendable score was to bat out the 35 overs. So that's what they did. Matt 'Embassy' Baldwin, Jimmy, Adrian, Robin and Alan all chipped in (Jimmy and Alan finishing not out) to help get the team through to 106/9 from their 35 overs. A semi-respectable total in the end.    more ...

CCC vs Band of Brothers

Posted by: webmaster on Monday May 25, 2015 (13:03:19)
CCC vs Band of Brothers (touring team from Kent, England) - 3/5/15

Due to the on-going global financial crisis, the 2015 CCC match reports may be a little briefer than in previous seasons. We apologise for any inconvenience.

CCC wins! Having lost all matches during the 2014 season, CCC began the 2015 season with a huge form reversal. Détails of the match have been hard to come by, but it is understood that the two new players, Jérôme and Jon, enjoyed their first outing for the club, and the three St Brice ringers were more than useful, helping CCC to reach their first victory since 2013. Apparantly, most CCC players were rather rusty after the winter break, but were happy to start off the new season on a positive note.

New season 2015

Posted by: webmaster on Saturday April 25, 2015 (17:50:21)
Following our AGM last week Chantilly Cricket Club has many reasons to be cheerful! We have a good core of members making up the side and plans in place to ensure we get full teams out for each of our games this season. Our finances are predicted to be healthy for the year ahead; but to do that we need you! If you would like to play this year, even if you haven't played for years or have never played but always fancied it, why not join? We are a small club with members of many differing abilities. With your help and support we can lay a solid foundation for the club for future years.

You may also notice a trial of a new identity for the club. We have seen a great many members leave the area over the last few years depleting our numbers so this is something of a new beginning for us all. This is where we hope you will join us, or if you know of someone who has expressed an interest in playing, no matter what their level, please don’t hesitate to forward this email on to them. We’re not looking for the next Mitchell Johnson or Joe Root (although that’d be nice), we’re looking for anyone who enjoys sport in general, being outdoors and the comradery of fellow players. The membership form is available here.

Here’s to a great season in 2015 - hopefully with you there!
