The Scouts take to the forest in the hunt for SPECTRE

Posted by: ChantillyScouts on Friday November 20, 2015 (06:39:23)
Two groups of brave scouts and explorers set off through the Chantilly forests on the 7th November to find clues that would lead them to their final base, and save the world.

The Explorers went on bicycles in one direction, while the Scouts started hiking and following clues and Geocaches from Chantilly, to Pontarme to Thiers sur Theve.
The Explorers caught up with the Scouts a couple of kilometres before the final destination on the Butte aux gens d’armes and we travelled the last section together.

A meal of jacket potatoes and beans were cooked around the fire, under the stars of a beautiful warm evening that felt more like May than November!

The scouts will be attending the Chantilly Kermesse on the 28th November.
The next meeting is on the 5th December.

Chantilly Scouts celebrate 150 years of St Peter’s church with the Anglo community

Posted by: ChantillyScouts on Sunday October 04, 2015 (08:34:40)
On Saturday 3rd October, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers came together to celebrate 150 years since St Peter’s church was founded. Although Scouting is multi-faith, the church is an important hub for the English speaking community, and is the home of the Scout Hall where we meet each week. It was thus a pleasure to run our meeting at the same time as the service, and afterwards to join in the fun and games of the celebrations afterwards.    more ...

CCC vs Nomads

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday September 24, 2015 (13:11:09)
CCC vs Nomads - 29 August 2015

The mercury was already pushing past 30 by the time the Chantilly players arrived at the Apremont ground on Saturday 29th August for their annual fixture against the Nomads from England. After a fair amount of time being lost with train hiccups and communication issues, the Nomads finally arrived at the ground ready to play.

The original plan to play 35 overs starting at 13:30, soon became 30 overs starting at 14:30 and the Nomads put themselves into bat first. When asked why they chose to bat first, their reply was: "because if you bat first the game will only last an hour." The man who made this comment is hopefully now feeling a little broken inside......

Captain Robin Richardson, opened up at the polo field end, with vice-captain Regan coming in from the other polo field end. Both started well (except for Regan's first ball that was spanked for 4) and the first 6 overs only went for 20 odd, although no wickets fell.

The first bowling change brought on Patrick Clarke, which quickly proved to be a wise decision; he took out the middle stump of one Nomadic opener with a beautifully delivered ball. Saravanan, a star with the ball in his previous match, soon came on as the next change, although he only lasted two overs due to exhaustion from the heat.    more ...

Chantilly Scouts

Posted by: ChantillyScouts on Sunday September 13, 2015 (15:44:33)
Chantilly Scout Group kicked off the new term in style yesterday at their “Accrobranche Open Day”.

Around 30 children, young adults, leaders and parents took to the trees, with another dozen so on the ground, organising, registering, or simply enjoying watching their children have fun in the trees over a coffee.

The afternoon was a great example of the rule number 1 of Chantilly Scouts “We don’t let the threat of rain stop us!”. Very Happy

In fact we were very lucky because the downpour of the morning stopped at about 2pm, and started up again at 5.30, just as we were all gathering for cake under the tent! The poor weather meant that we had the place almost totally to ourselves, there was little queuing and everybody could swing around to their hearts content.

It was great to see a lot of new faces who have not been before, and equally great to see some returning faces, of the older ‘explorer section’ who came back to ‘Hang out’ with their friends. It was also the first meeting for some new leaders - who bring new energy to the group.

This year, we intend to run monthly meetings, with the next one based around the 150 year celebrations of Chantilly church on the 3rd October.

Match Reports 2015

CCC vs MCC XXIXers

Posted by: webmaster on Monday July 27, 2015 (13:58:25)
Disclaimer: this report has been written WITHOUT the scorecard, hence some imprecision regarding how and when the runs were scored.

On an early July evening, the outlook appeared bleak for Chantilly Cricket Club’s first midweek T20 match. The heatwave had been replaced by grey skies, blustery winds and – as the start of the match grew near – sheets of rain! It was more of a wet splash than the Big Bash.

However the presence of only two Chantilly players meant the match had to be delayed anyway. Luckily the arrival of Matt, on loan from British Embassy and our wicketkeeper for the game, meant that Eddy and Robin could realistically envisage bowling the opening overs and taking on the might of the Australian touring party. These Antipodeans had taken Shane Warne’s advice and travelled by coach, though not necessarily all the way. The Melbourne CC XXIX Club had visited and played in Italy before arriving in Paris to experience French cricket. They were then to head for England and some more games followed by some Ashes cricket at Lord’s.

The tourists had kindly agreed to field a team similar in ability to our own. That obviously meant Chantilly was up against a team of crack athletes.
By now Eddy had got his gazebos up (not a euphemism), the 29ers were venturing out from the comfort zone of their warm coach and the other Chantilly players were trickling in.

Game on!    more ...

Match Reports 2015

CCC vs LFP Cricket Club

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday July 02, 2015 (12:01:46)
Cooling off after a hot afternoon
It was yet another hot, hot day in Apremont for CCC's fifth match of the season, against the LFP Cricket Club. The fixture was originally supposed to be against Thoiry, but they must have written it on their fixture calendar using invisible ink. They informed us two days before the fixture that they had no idea about the fixture, so the LFP Cricket Club thankfully stepped up at the 11th hour.

With Nick C still on his way to the ground, and Eddy looking for something in the boot of his car, Jimmy joined the opposition captain for the toss. Jimmy's only other toss for CCC was a loss against the Embassy, but flipping a coin instead of a beer mat worked for Jimmy this time. Not wanting to send the troops out into field in the mid afternoon heat, Jimmy chose to bat, much to the delight of the Chantilly players crammed under Eddy's gazebos.

Nick S and Dominic padded up first, only to pad down (is that the verb for taking your pads off?) very shortly afterwards. With both openers gone and the total still in single digits, Chantilly were already wondering if this would be another one of those innings where they have to defend 60 runs. Eddy and Shaban started to calm the team's nerves however, playing some beautiful strokes and hitting the boundary at regular intervals. The two batsmen formed a great partnership, steering the CCC ship towards 70 runs after only 10 overs. Suddenly the Chantilly players were wondering if they might finally discover what it would be like to defend 200!    more ...

Sue Oakley leaves

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday July 02, 2015 (11:49:52)
Last Sunday saw Chantilly Cricket Club play (and win - see the match report!) their latest match. It also saw us have an opportunity to say goodbye and thank you to Sue Oakley, who is leaving these shores to return to England.

Sue has been instrumental in getting CCC to where it is today; for many years she has been an almost constant presence at matches supporting either Rob or Jack. She has been our scorer for as many years as we have had a scorer and she has been in charge of our prize giving ceremonies and speeches at our AGMs too. Without her CCC would not be the sociable cricket club it is.

Sue leaves with much gratitude from all players, past and present, and we all wish her the very best of luck in her future life in the UK. And if you do come back you'd be very welcome any time!
