Thoiry vs CCC

Posted by: webmaster on Sunday July 13, 2014 (09:36:00)
15th June 2014 – “No Roaring Lions”

Thoiry had a championnat game in the morning and were going to struggle to get up to Chantilly at a reasonable time, so we decided to play the game down there.

Chantilly welcomed back Shaban for this game but could still only muster 9 players. Thoiry lent a man to the Chantilly cause (Dilip) and so it was to be: 10 against 10; 35 overs on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon.

Thoiry won the toss and decided to bat – something they didn’t have much of a chance to do successfully in the morning, apparently.

Jimmy Regan and Robin Richardson opened the CCC bowling attack against Tyson and Hussan, the former quickly finding his form, hitting a 6 off Jimmy in only his 2nd over.

The first wicket to fall was that of Hussan, caught for 15 behind the wicket by Jack Oakley off the bowling of Richardson. Tyson had his skates on though and reached his 50 through 2 consecutive 4s in the 15th over. Was he dropped at first slip by yours truly? I’m relieved to report that it would have been adjudged a bump ball!

Shaban looked the most threatening of the Chantilly bowlers, generating impressive pace of a not much of a run-up – sort of the opposite of what our ex-president used to do (- hope you’re still reading the match reports, Lee!) and didn’t deserve to come away without a wicket.    more ...

CCC vs Aulnay II

Posted by: webmaster on Friday June 20, 2014 (15:19:40)
Aulnay bowling
At least the samosas were good…

Once again Chantilly struggled to get a side and, despite a late request for help to Aulnay to bring an extra player, had to play with 10.

Chantilly won the toss and, seeing that the wicket was a little green, decided to put Aulnay into bat for this 35-over game. Richardson and Regan opened Chantilly’s bowling giving away few runs and picking up the early wickets of both openers, Siva and Kannan. Consequently, at 17 for 2, there were calls to the side of the pitch to “put the kettle on”, but I think we all knew that that might be a little premature.

Luckily for Aulnay, Ananth batted with the intent of staying there all afternoon, and he very nearly did, being bowled by Clarke in the 33rd over for what we thought at the time was a cruel 49, but after a recount was pronounced a half century.
Prana Pavitra took over from Regan at the pavilion end with a catastrophic first over that included 10 wides, surely deserving of an award at the end of the season. To be fair to Prana, the umpires were imposing T20-level strictness on wides. To be fair to Aulnay, the bowling was all over the place and Prana had to take a break to compose himself. And to be fair to scorer Sue, sometimes that bowling analysis box is just too small.    more ...

CCC vs Thoiry

Posted by: webmaster on Saturday June 14, 2014 (13:22:01)
It was a beautiful day to travel down to Thoiry for our first encounter of 2014 with our friendly rivals. After picking up a friend of a friend of a friend at the train station, we headed south still one player short. Upon arriving at the Thoiry clubhouse, we learnt that our 10th player would be none other than Mark Moodley. Perhaps we should turn up short of players more often!

Still one player short, the match began with Chantilly in the field. Regan’s first delivery was sent back over his head for four, and the innings generally went downhill from there for CCC, but here are some bowling highlights:
- Prana picked up a couple of wickets. A nice reward for some accurate bowling.
- Nick Clarke bowled for the first time in 2014, taking one wicket. Form is temporary, but class is permanent. The form will return!
- Mark Moodley showed us that he’s not just a batsman with a wicket too.
- Rob Oakley bowled well, taking a well deserved wicket (you’ll struggle to see a better caught & bowled).
- George Wordsley took a wicket from his first ball for CCC, thanks to Dominic’s superb, one-handed catch.
- Denzil and Jimmy bowled. There were no highlights as such, unless you play for Thoiry, in which case there were several highlights that went sailing over the boundary.    more ...

CCC vs Aulnay

Posted by: webmaster on Saturday June 14, 2014 (13:19:34)
Chantilly’s 3rd game of 2014 was against Aulnay who firstly needed to be coerced into starting the game in the afternoon – they would play all day given the chance. The original plan was to play 40 overs, but a later start and the forecast of brief but squally showers led us to plump for 30.

In our search for new, young stars of the future, a big CCC welcome to Dominic Andrews. He contacted the club on a whim on the Tuesday and found himself in the 1st XI on the Sunday. To other potential 1st XI players out there, “your whims could come true, too – get in touch”.

Chantilly won the toss and decided to bat, opening with Matt Baldwin, of Embassy fame, and Rob Oakley. Baldwin gave himself a bit too much room to a straight one with the score on 14 and Kalim Fazal came to the crease. He didn’t last long either unfortunately – also bowled, which brought in new boy Andrews (who last picked up a bat “a long time ago”). The following stand of 39 with Oakley brought some stability and respectability to the innings.    more ...

Match Reports 2014

CCC vs Lille

Posted by: webmaster on Saturday June 14, 2014 (13:16:48)
Chantilly headed into their second match of the 2014 season looking for a win, in order to shake off their early slip up at the hands of St Brice the week before. Having only had seven CCC players available for the previous match, Chantilly were now happy to be boasting nine members in this team.

So, Chantilly batted first, with Rob and Prana opening. Unfortunately, Prana played-on for a duck, bringing Kalim to the crease a little earlier than expected. Rob and Kalim got stuck into their work though, and managed to survive several overs, while accumulating some precious runs at the same time. They batted well, through to the 11th over, until Kalim was bowled for 9, with the score on 33.

Another useful partnership quickly formed between Rob and Nick Sansbury, with both batsmen looking good (and batting well too!), and getting the score through to 60, when the 3rd wicket fell. Nick was caught for a very handy 17 in the 18th over.

CCC were looking good for a reasonable total (somewhere in the region of 120+ would have been nice), but sadly Rob was caught, having reached CCC’s top score of 28, and Chantilly’s middle order (some might say early tail-end) was now exposed. Batsmen no.5 through to no.11 acquired 16 runs between them, and Chantilly’s hopes of a competitive total were somewhat dashed. The target for Lille was 93. Could CCC bowl themselves out of trouble again????    more ...

Match Reports 2014

CCC vs CC St Brice

Posted by: webmaster on Saturday June 14, 2014 (13:13:25)
The start of the 2014 season has been a challenge for Chantilly Cricket Club following the departure of the 1 or 2 stalwarts and the temporary absence of 2 or 3 or 4 others. And so it was that, for the traditional first game of the year against our partners in crime (some regard Chantilly’s cricket as a crime, at least), we turned up apologetically with 7 players and requested to borrow 4.

It’s been decided that after 5 years, this will be the last match specifically in memory of Nilesh Patel, but the goal in the future is still to open the season with CCC vs CCSB.    more ...
