CCC vs Lisse (part 3)

Posted by: webmaster on Wednesday September 21, 2011 (10:19:12)
Denzil will be wearing a helmet from now on!
11 September dawned wet, much as had the rest of the summer, with the forecast of heavy rain to come . But Rob, our illustrious captain would not be deterred, and Chantilly would be playing their last minute, 25 over match against Lisse. This was the third match against the same team this season, a team who have only recently formed and are looking for as much practice as they can get. They had beaten Chantilly on their first attempt, but at the second had been pegged back giving Chantilly a 78 run victory. So, the series was balanced at 1 a-piece, and Chantilly were keen to stay on top.

As is normal Rob lost the toss, and with drizzle starting to fall CCC were put into the field. Without our star bowler of the season (Eddy Hoyle) it seemed we were destined to struggle, and Lisse set about the bowling with some relish. Regan and Richardson stuck at their task but for no reward, eventually going for 38 and 32 runs respectively off their 5 overs. Heard made a difference when he came into bowl, taking a sharp caught and bowled to dismiss Aru for 14, which unfortunately only brought Baskar to join Bala at the crease. Bala had eventually made 59 when he was bowled by Heard, but other wickets were hard to find. Chantilly’s catching was woeful, perhaps down to the weather, but at least 5 dollies were spilled which cost us dear. Pretsell managed one wicket, bowled not caught of course, but with Baskar finishing not out on 60 Lisse amassed 175 runs for the loss of only 3 wickets in total.    more ...

CCC vs Embassy

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday September 15, 2011 (15:43:00)
Early September saw a close to full strength Chantilly side take on the Embassy team once again, a team who seem to reappear at Apremont with all the regularity of a winter cold. Once again they had their regulars, with the odd ‘ringer’ whose prowess would only be discovered on the pitch. Embassy won the toss and elected to bat – the weather promising to hold fair to allow a contest of 35 overs a side.

Chantilly’s bowling, whilst missing Robin Richardson’s unerring line following his thumb injury (pah, call that an injury – ed), still managed to keep a lid on Embassy’s scoring rate. Eddy ‘Glen McGrath’ Hoyle in particular was almost unplayable, bowling 2 wicket maidens and a maiden in a devastating opening salvo of 4-14, with all 4 wickets clean bowled. Patrick ‘Hammy’ Heard deputised manfully from the other end, proving equally tough to get away, taking a wicket and giving away only 15 runs in his opening 4 over spell.    more ...

CCC vs Nomads

Posted by: webmaster on Friday September 09, 2011 (10:21:00)
Chantilly's run of wins came to an abrupt end at the hands of the Nomads (or was it a France cricket XI?) on the 28th August. Any spectator wandering past at around 4pm would have put a reasonable sum on Chantilly to win. Turning up again 3 hours later to watch Chantilly seal the victory, he would have been lucky to find anyone still up at the ground - and there were certainly no winnings to be handed over.

Chantilly won the toss and put Nomads in for this 40 over game. Opening bowlers Hoyle and Regan kept the lid on run scoring for a long time, between them giving away only 29 runs for 16 overs bowled.

The departure of Surridge, who had battled long and hard just to stay there, brought in Davidson who had scored 90-odd the previous day against Thoiry. His steady start was ominous in the fact that he seemed to play all his shots with the middle of the bat – something rarely seen at Apremont.

After 20 overs the Nomads had still only scored 56 runs, but were starting to accelerate. And around this time Chantilly started dropping catches. Never, on the field at Apremont, has so much been dropped by so many for so few wickets taken. Truth be said, Eddy got a couple of good ones. Maybe we were rusty after our mid-summer break, but poor fielding and the skills of Davidson (who went on to score 114 not out) led to a final score of 194 for 4.

Still, this sort of score is attainable on a good day for Chantilly so we went into tea licking our wounds but not without hope. And a very fine tea it was, with some weird and wonderful sandwiches courtesy of Eddy with some help from Tris.    more ...

CCC vs Lisse (part 2)

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday July 21, 2011 (12:36:59)
By July, the exceptional spring had degenerated into cool, windy and wet weather . The Saturday had been a washout and Sunday afternoon was forecast for rain - just as well those keen Lisses chaps wanted to play in the morning.

Lisses won on their previous visit to Chantilly back in June, chasing CCC's total over 25 overs. As last time, Chantilly won the toss and elected to bat first. Same format, same result?

Without the 2 regular openers of Pretsell and Sansbury, Eddie Hoyle and Rob Oakley started off the innings for Chantilly. The Lisses bowling was relatively tight but 3 or 4 runs were squeezed out of every over. They saw off the opening bowlers and then accelerated the run rate until Oakley was clean bowled by Balagi for 32.

Patrick "Hammy" Heard came in and helped push things along to 86 before he was run out - or his runner was run out - for 5.    more ...

Match Reports 2011

CCC vs Hermits

Posted by: webmaster on Thursday July 21, 2011 (12:32:40)
Chantilly Cricket Club had their second good reason to write a match report this year - their first victory in the 2011 season, at the sixth attempt. Gawd bless you, Hermits, every one of ya!

The format of the game was decided as 35 overs but with a few tweaks. All players (other than those that really refused) would bowl at least 1 over. As a counter-measure (- to avoid us playing until 10 pm), wides would count as 2 runs and not merit the extra ball. And for fun, no balls would be followed by free hit - T20 style.

Unfortunately, the Hermits had a couple of late withdrawals from the tour, but Chantilly players (strike bowler, Tris Congreve and ace fielder, Mark Hunter) kindly accepted to cross to the dark side.

The Hermits won the toss and put Chantilly in to bat. Sansbury and Pretsell opened up and all looked to be going well until Sansbury pulled to leg and was brilliantly caught by the turncoat, Hunter.    more ...

Match Reports 2011

Thoiry vs CCC

Posted by: webmaster on Monday June 06, 2011 (16:35:04)
CCC in action against Thoiry
The start of the season has been tough for Chantilly, without a win and little incentive to write match reports. Would we be inspired by our performance against Thoiry on the 4th June? Very obviously the answer is "yes" - this game deserved a match report.

Thoiry won the toss, as is customary, and decided to bat letting Chantilly field in the sultry air of the afternoon, which is also customary. New boys Richardson and Heard opened the bowling for Chantilly, Richardson getting the early breakthrough of Greave's wicket. The next wicket however took a long, long time to come.

Chantilly's bowlers struggled with their line and length in the heat, giving away a generous 20 wides, with Denzil Homer athletically preventing more leakage of runs from behind the stumps. Richardson was the pick of the bowlers, unlucky to come away with only 1 wicket for 35 runs off his 7 overs. Patrick Clarke and Lee Pretsell picked up 2 wickets each.

A special mention to Mark Hunter in his first game, who, for little reward, did a fine job of patrolling the lower boundary. This area of the ground was very popular with the Thoiry batsmen, who, together with the dry, fast outfield, led to a busy, hot afternoon.

Run scoring slowed a little at the end of the Thoiry innings, but the total off their 35 overs was high at 279 for 6.    more ...
