CCC AGM for 2009 season

The CCC committee
Once again the St Peter's Church Hall was the venue for CCC's delayed AGM for the 2009 season. We are very lucky to have a 'hands on' president in the shape of Jonathan Pease who delivered a warmly received speech.

We are also lucky in having a good selection of juniors who are already threatening the 'senior' team for places. Indeed out 'most improved player' award went to one such junior, Patch.

Our club captain and scorer, in the shape of Rob and Sue did us all proud with their 'prize giving', probably the highlight of the season. We were also blessed with a good turnout of 'wives and others' who were able to enjoy a great selection of food and drinks.

Played 9; won 2; lost 6, tied 1.

Overall this looks pretty poor. But when you consider that 4 of the lost games were so close that they could have gone either way, it is not so bad.

The games we won were the ones where we batted first. The results probably reflect a lack of match experience for many of our batters – of how to win a game when chasing runs.

As with the last couple of years, we remain a better bowling side than batting side.

Thank you to those who bought, brought and set-up equipment (the tent, stoves etc.- so Nick Jones especially) and to all those who prepared and served teas.

Thank you to those who wrote the match reports, even if 1 or 2 are still work in progress! And thanks again to Adrian for the website.

Ground
o Outfield – excellently kept as last year – thanks to Polo Club.
o Thank you to Jean-François. Some of you may be aware that Jean-François retrieved a couple of benches from Chantilly town. These are very solidly built – obviously made for the outside – and should last us a long time.
o There is still talk of re-positioning/re-orientating the nets. It still remains the plan.

Equipment
o Nets. An extension was made early in the season so that slower bowlers could have a bit more flight. This works well most of the time. Thanks to Nick Shepherd.
o I would like to make official our thanks to Dave Naish – a friend from the UK and a senior member of Woodgreen Cricket Club in the New Forest for the equipment that he has bought over recently for us.
o A set of used batting pads – free, to be added to our kit.
o A new set of wicky pads (£18)
o Some good quality 2nd hand cricket jumpers, shirts and trousers that we can sell off to club members for the benefit of the club for a small amount (minimum 5 Euros each suggested). FOC with respect to the provider.

o Tent – a new one was acquired back in June and has been well used and appreciated – thanks to Nick Jones.
o Kit (beyond that described above). A dozen balls will be required for the new season – I can buy these. Also we have talked about umpires’ coats – a couple of lab coats could be bought from Castorama, if you agree.

Scoring
The scorebook is up-to-date with 2009 games. Thank you to Sue again for scoring several times and to others for assisting.

Finally
The summary of results could make the year appear dismal. The mix up with St Brice over the use of the ground caused some temporary dismay.

A couple of points to make here:

Firstly, Nick, with respect to 2010 fixtures you continue to have my and the rest of the team’s full support.

Secondly, I have to report that the team spirit on and around the pitch is alive and well. Relative to the 2008 season, and over the course of the 2009 season, the quality of cricket (batting, bowling and fielding) has clearly improved – we’re starting to play a decent level and we have some strength in depth.

The victory in the final game of the season where we posted our highest-ever score, was memorable for high quality cricket and the spirit in which it was played.
We should be confident for 2010.
