Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Match Reports 2017

CCC vs Nomads

Well, it's only taken four months for Chantilly Cricket Club to produce their first match report of the season, but perhaps that's because it also happened to be their first win of 2017. Is it right to only produce match reports for the wins? Well, it certainly means less work for the writer.....

This match was the annual fixture between the Nomads and CCC. Having had 0 wins from 4 matches up to this point, CCC were desperate to get a win under their belts.

Chantlilly batted first, with stalwart Nick Sainsbury joined by newcomer Nasser at the top of the innings. Unfortunately, neither could gather much steam, and both were gone cheaply within the first few overs. Vicky came in at first drop and suffered a similar fate, leaving Chantilly already three down for very few runs.

Fortunately for CCC, Shaban was next in and looked in good form from the out set. His run of solid scores this season has been a pleasure to watch, and this innings was to be the best of the lot. A plethera of 4s, as well as some sensible running and defensive play, added to a superb individual total of 93.

Shaban was also well supported by Zahid and Eddy, scoring 9 and 26 respectively, to keep the run rate high and the score ticking over nicely.

Wickets continued to fall however and once Ashok and Jimmy had both been and gone, it was left to Renald and Robin to try and squeeze out a few more runs from the final overs. They managed to do this with style while keeping their wickets intact.

Chantilly finishied with 174/9 from their 30 overs.

With a full strength bowling line up, CCC were confident of keeping the Nomads from reaching their target. They couldn't have hoped for a better start when Eddy clean bowled their opener, Jack Hardy, in the first over.

Robin and Eddy both bowled extremely well, stopping the Nomadic batsmen from building any momentum. The run rate stalled at 2 an over, as the Nomads went into defensive mode.

It was Robin who made the second break through; a textbook catch by Nick behind the stumps. Robin then followed that up with another wicket, this time a safe catch by Zahid at mid off.

At this point the Nomads looked in trouble, but their batting line up still had plenty of firepower to come.

Jimmy was called upon to see what he could do with his left arm medium pacers, but sadly he had to 'retire hurt' during just his second over, after receiving a cricket ball to the head. (who knew you had to wear a helmet while bowling!)

At this point, new batsman Wayne and surviving opener Shan, managed to put on a fruitful partnership for the Nomads. They collected 67 runs between them before Wayne was caught by Nasser off the bowling of Ashok.

This brought Jothy to the crease, who continued where Wayne had left off. This partnership produced another 22 runs for the Nomads, before Shan was eventually removed off the bowling of Ashok with a great catch in the deep by Renald.

With the required run rate looking daunting for the Nomads, Ross and Jothy continued some solid hitting out in the middle, but when Ross was caught by Zahir off the bowling of Shaban in the 29th over, the pending result started to look clear.

30 runs off the last over proved to be too much for the Nomads to cope with, and so they finished with 153/6 off their 30 overs.

And so, a well deserved win for Chantilly Cricket Club!

Against a decent bowling attack and a very strong batting line up, Chantilly produced an excellent day of cricket. The fielding was outstanding, the bowling was sharp and a couple of batsmen managed to hang around long enough to put some decent scores on the board.

Congratulations to Shaban for a match-winning 93 and to Robin for producing his best bowling performance of the year and the best figures of the day with 2/20 off his six overs.

Until the next win......happy cricketing!
