CCC vs Lille 16/5/15

CCC loses! This was no humiliating loss however. There was a real fight to CCC's batting and bowling, that almost got them over the line, with most players agreeing that this was a particularly enjoyable match to be a part of.
Batting first, despite some reasonable knocks, CCC found themsleves about 5 wickets down, with only around 60 runs on the board and over half of the innings gone. After Prana went in the first over, Nick S, Eddy, Nick C, and Nick Shep, all looked in good touch, but none could go on to make a big score. Newcomer Balaji looked very good in the nets, but was caught second ball out in the middle, so we'll have to wait until next time to know what he's really capable of.

At this point, the middle order/tail end batsmen put their heads together and realised their only chance of getting a defendable score was to bat out the 35 overs. So that's what they did. Matt 'Embassy' Baldwin, Jimmy, Adrian, Robin and Alan all chipped in (Jimmy and Alan finishing not out) to help get the team through to 106/9 from their 35 overs. A semi-respectable total in the end.

109 was still going to be tough to defend however, and unfortunately for Chantilly, Lille got off to a very solid start. Despite Eddy and Robin bowling extremely well from one end, the other end was giving away runs at an unhealthy rate. Too many wides and one rather large 6, started putting the pressure on CCC, and the match began slipping away from them. By the 18th over, Lille were well over half way to their target, with only a few batsmen back in the 'pavillion'. A much needed drinks break (not because we were thirsty, but because we needed to break their momentum) worked wonders for CCC. Wickets started falling again, and the Chantilly players could suddenly smell victory creeping in across the polo grounds. Adrian and Prana both bowled well, adding more pressure to the Lille middle order, but they were soon replaced for one last push with Eddy, Robin, and Jimmy coming back to see if they could get through the rest of the team. They got close. Very close. But sadly, not close enough. Lille won with a couple of wickets left in hand.

And after all that the rum cake all disappeared as did the chocolate fudge cake. At least there was some coffee and walnut cake left!
