CCC vs Lille

Posted by: webmaster on Saturday June 14, 2014 (13:16:48)   (3077 Reads)

Chantilly headed into their second match of the 2014 season looking for a win, in order to shake off their early slip up at the hands of St Brice the week before. Having only had seven CCC players available for the previous match, Chantilly were now happy to be boasting nine members in this team.

So, Chantilly batted first, with Rob and Prana opening. Unfortunately, Prana played-on for a duck, bringing Kalim to the crease a little earlier than expected. Rob and Kalim got stuck into their work though, and managed to survive several overs, while accumulating some precious runs at the same time. They batted well, through to the 11th over, until Kalim was bowled for 9, with the score on 33.

Another useful partnership quickly formed between Rob and Nick Sansbury, with both batsmen looking good (and batting well too!), and getting the score through to 60, when the 3rd wicket fell. Nick was caught for a very handy 17 in the 18th over.

CCC were looking good for a reasonable total (somewhere in the region of 120+ would have been nice), but sadly Rob was caught, having reached CCC’s top score of 28, and Chantilly’s middle order (some might say early tail-end) was now exposed. Batsmen no.5 through to no.11 acquired 16 runs between them, and Chantilly’s hopes of a competitive total were somewhat dashed. The target for Lille was 93. Could CCC bowl themselves out of trouble again????

Things started very well for Chantilly, with Robin taking a wicket with his first ball. It was a ripper that removed at least one stump, and importantly, one of Lille’s opening batsmen. Robin kept the pressure on with a second wicket in the fifth over (a tremendous catch by Nick Sansbury), and his third coming in the seventh, with the total on 27. Chantilly’s modest total was now looking slightly defendable, as Regan shouted loudly enough to get an LBW with the score on 39. A few more quick wickets, and CCC would be in with a real chance….

Lille’s next two batsmen managed to build a useful partnership however, getting them through to 60, until Robin interrupted their fun by picking up his fourth wicket of the innings. CCC were not out of it yet though, and more wickets were still to come. Prana and Regan picked up a couple more (an LBW and bowled respectively), but Lille were just too close to their target and managed to get the winning runs in the 24th over.

In the end, it was a fairly heavy defeat, although an entertaining match that was a pleasure to be a part of. It was certainly an improvement on the previous week. Onwards and upwards!!!

Special thanks to Sue for scoring, Denzil for the delicious teas, and Stuart and Joshua for helping us field 11 players.
