Aussies in Chantilly

Post Posted: Mon Oct 27, 2008 9:13 pm

Hi, we are a couple of Aussies (one ex-UK) who have only just relocated into Chantilly. We are keen to meet the expat community and also the locals but because we have very very little French it may be some time before we can converse well with the local French but happy to give it a go.

I am keen to get information on the pilates classes especially with Christmas on our doorstep. Can someone please give this to me?

We are also keen to get advice on French wines - we have been terribly spoilt in Australia and are seeking to learn the best regions here etc. etc.

I am an English teacher (ESL) and a Naturopath and my husband works in IT.

Hope to meet many of you soon

Sue & Malcolm

Hi Sue,
There is a lady who does Pilates classes in the area. You will need to contact her at NCKKJONES at aol dot com.

We're a couple of Aussies (one ex-UK) also who will be moving to France towards the end of the year depending on one simple question - will I be able to practise my profession.
I'm also a naturopath and am trying to get information on the process of establishing myself in France.
Professional bodies, legal requirements, etc

Sue, if you are or have gone through the process of establishing yourself as a naturopath, I'd be very interested in your experiences.
So far I've enquired all over the place and have received no real information from anyone -
and as a naturopath, would I be allowed to practice herbal medicine, as well as nutrition and homeoepathy etc and work integratively with doctors.
Lots of questions, but so far, no answers.

Any help you'd be able to give me would be very much appreciated...

Christine (and Richard)

Hi Christine (and Richard!),

Sue has in fact moved back to Australia after their 3 year posting here finished. I will however point her in the direction of this thread to see if she has any comments...

Sue asked me to pass this on..

I enquired into having products sent to me in France and found that so many of them are not allowed into the country which would have made it very difficult to practice there. When I started looking at all the costs involved in setting up a business, the high taxes and the annual maintenance of the business legals I decided it was all too hard

Having said that though Christine may make connections to better informed people than me but I would strongly recommend getting really good insurance before practicing natural medicine and research if the people actually want it given that the doctors use homeopathy. I would also recommend being quite fluent in the French language as must because so few people speak English.

I hope this link to a French Naturopathic Association may be able to assist with some of the legal issues - http://bit.ly/GBJiuT

Hope this helps

Very many thanks for the reply.

The personal experience adds weight to suggests I'm receiving elsewhere but I'll still try to track down more information, particularly from the manufacturers. It seems its going to be a long road.......:)
